We are almost exactly 24 hours out from Al's Whipple Procedure at Duke and he is feeling very hopeful and not too uncomfortable considering all the changes his body has gone through. Al had an epidural after the surgery, which helped greatly with his pain level, and he was able to smile a little and enjoy joking with his kids. By early evening, he was giving his nurses financial advice and reminding them to save for retirement!

Al has been faithfully attended to by Susan and Carol Arant, who is acting as the Winget Team medical liaison. She helps translate all of the complicated procedures so the family can fully understand and helps everyone anticipate the next steps. Her expertise has been tremendous in helping Al and his family confidently navigate these complex issues.

Last night, Al was telling everyone that he is hopeful that Susan will care for him as attentively as she does her horses, but he may wish she cared a little less, as she was coming in today, hopeful to get him up and moving.
